Chianti day trip

Panorama Chianti

The time has come to explore the famous Chianti region, here scenery and wine tasting are the order of the day!

I recommend taking a car to get to Chianti so you are free to move around the neighbouring villages; otherwise take bus 365 near the SMN station in Florence and for the return journey, don't worry, most buses stop in Florence.

If you have already arrived in Greve in Chianti, it means that you have already passed through a fabulous landscape surrounded by curves and vineyards and, I confess, it is one of my favourite parts.

Also, if you arrive on a Saturday, you will find the old market in Piazza Matteotti, the focal point of the town, surrounded by the portico that serves as a backdrop for the shops, artisans' workshops and restaurants located under the arches. If you pass through Greve in September, you cannot miss Expo Chianti classico 2023, an event in which all the producers of chianti take to Piazza Matteotti to have their products tasted.

Gallo Nero Chianti Classico

Speaking of wine, have you ever wondered why there is a black rooster on every bottle of Chianti?

Legend has it that in medieval times, the Florentines and the Sienese were arch-enemies because they both wanted to control the Chianti territory; so they decided to determine the borders with a challenge: at the first crowing of the rooster, a horseman would gallop from their respective cities and, at the point where they would meet, the border would be drawn.

The Sienese chose a white rooster and looked after him with every comfort, while the cunning Florentines chose a black rooster, kept him on an empty stomach and, on the day of the challenge, the poor black rooster suddenly woke up at dawn and began to crow!

Thus the Florentine knight managed to leave with a clear advantage over the Sienese knight, who was still sleeping as peacefully as the white rooster. This is why the territory of the Florentine Chianti is larger than that of Siena and why the symbol of Chianti is the black rooster.

Antica Macelleria Falorni

Admit it, there's only one reason you came to Chianti, the wine and the food. I'll satisfy you right now!

I'll take you to the Antica macelleria Falorni in Piazza Matteotti, where you can enjoy a nice glass of wine with km 0 products.

Or, for a 360° experience, I'll take you to the Enoteca Falorni for an unforgettable sensory experience with over 100 wines for tasting, and you can have a taste experience through the gastronomic proposals with products from the Antica Macelleria Falorni butcher's shop. You will leave more than satisfied and perhaps a walk is the perfect option before getting back on the road. I recommend a nice loop walk from Greve in Chianti to Montefioralle; a small fortified village from which you can admire a breathtaking panorama!
