2 Art and Culture

In a baroque atmosphere, a few steps from the sixteenth-century walls and the austere medieval palaces of Lucca, stands Palazzo Pfanner.

Its construction was started in 1660 by the Moriconi family of silk merchants and members of the ancient patriciate of Lucca. Following an unexpected financial setback, the Moriconi were forced to sell the property in 1680.

The currently open part of Palazzo Pfanner includes the large central hall, where there is a permanent exhibition of medical-surgical instruments and ancient medical texts, which belonged to Pietro Pfanner (1864-1935), and many other rooms furnished with antique furniture, period furnishings and sacred objects.

You can also visit the garden, with its grassy floors, ornamental blooms, tall trees and lemon basins that accompany the monumental theory of eighteenth-century statues depicting the gods of the Greek Olympus and the Four Seasons.

3 Outdoors

For a trip out of town in the name of total relaxation, a stop in Bagni di Lucca is the one for you.

The village is located in the Serchio Valley, known since ancient times for its thermal and healing springs. Frequented already by the ancient Romans, these baths were the custom of nobles and artists from all over Europe in the nineteenth century: Byron, Shelley, Strauss, Dumas found peace and inspiration in its waters.

In Bagni di Lucca you can access two spa complexes, Jean Varraud and Casa Boccella, and visit two beautiful natural caves: Grotta Grande and Grotta Paolina, where steam is beneficial for the skin and circulation.

Before reaching the village, we recommend an intermediate stop in Mozzano, where you can admire the Maddalena Bridge. Known as Devil’s Bridge, this incredible structure stands out with a large round arch flanked by three smaller arches, an incredible structure built according to local legend by Satan himself.

Enjoy a relaxing day, it is the most beautiful thing you can give yourself

A magnificent green space that dates back to the early '800 and preserves mainly exotic plants, including the very rare Gingko Biloba (an ancient tree whose origins date back to 250 million years ago).

According to a legend, the garden is haunted by the ghost of the beautiful Lucida Mansi, who to remain young forever sold her soul to the devil.
